Empowering Women Through Technology: The C-Phone and the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence

Every year, 85,000 women are killed globally—60% of them by men they know intimately. This staggering reality reflects a systemic failure to protect women and an urgent call to action. At T4H, we believe that innovation, when harnessed for social good, has the power to transform lives. With this belief, we are proud to announce the integration of life-saving technology into the Citizen Smartphone, a device designed with purpose: to empower and protect.

As Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and women’s rights activist, powerfully stated: "We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back." This sentiment fuels our commitment to leveraging technology to break down barriers, protect lives, and empower women.

The Urgency of a Solution

The numbers are clear: gender-based violence is a global crisis. While awareness campaigns and policies have made strides, true transformation requires scalable, accessible tools. Technology offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between need and action, enabling real-time support, prevention, and empowerment for women at risk.

The Citizen Smartphone: A Lifeline for Women

More than just a smartphone, the Citizen Smartphone is a lifeline for vulnerable populations. Through partnerships with innovators and stakeholders, T4H will pre-install a cutting-edge women’s safety app natively on every Citizen Smartphone. This ensures that essential services are available immediately, without the need for additional downloads or complicated setups. This initiative underscores T4H’s commitment to integrating innovation into the fabric of daily life. By combining accessibility with functionality, the Citizen Smartphone will provide features such as:

- Emergency alerts with a single click.

- Location tracking for rapid response.

- Connection to support networks, including shelters and NGOs.

- Educational resources for empowerment and awareness.

T4H Talent Program: Driving Innovation

At the heart of this effort lies the T4H Talent Program, a platform to identify the world’s best innovators in app development including for women’s safety. We are calling on developers and tech pioneers to submit their groundbreaking solutions through the T4H Talent Award. The winning app will be pre-installed on the C-Phone, amplifying its reach and impact. By integrating technology with purpose, the T4H Talent Program ensures that innovation serves as a force for social good. To apply and learn more, visit www.tforhtalents.com

A Roadmap for Global Impact

The launch of the C-Phone is more than a technological milestone—it’s a collaborative movement. From March to December 2025, T4H will roll out the C-Phone in DRC, Côte d'Ivoire, France, Belgium, and Italy, in partnership with:

- State governments to ensure regulatory support and accessibility.

- Telecom carriers to drive distribution and connectivity.

- NGOs and private sector players to maximize community reach and impact.

This phased approach will allow for tailored implementation, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in each region.
